Robert De Niro takes the lead as Frank "The Irishman" Sheeran.
Years of build-up finally came to a head at New York Film Festival this Friday morning, where Martin Scorsese's The Irishman had its world premiere for members of the press. Partially due to its extensive de-aging effects, it cost some $160 million to make. It is the ideal image, and title, for Martin Scorsese's first gangster film since The Departed, and one that even appears misleadingly on not one but two title cards book-ending the movie.
The Irishman opens in NY and Los Angeles on November 8 and will expand to more theaters in the subsequent weeks.

"I hope he gets impeached, it has to be followed through", variety.com quoted De Niro as saying. The Irishman, which tells the true story of mobster Mike Sheeran, and his involvement in the disappearance and murder of Jimmy Hoffa, unites Scorsese with frequent collaborators Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and Harvey Keitel, who are joined by Al Pacino.
The Irishman also stars Al Pacino and Joe Pesci and is an adaptation of the nonfiction book I Heard You Paint Houses. Shortly before his death, he confessed to killing Jimmy Hoffa (played by Pacino). A large share of that budget was spent on technology to make De Niro look younger.
"He finds himself at the most important point of his life in a moral conflict because he's basically a good man", said Scorsese. But unlike that classic movie, which kept its focus mainly on Henry Hill and his cohorts, "The Irishman" looks outward, illustrating the inextricable link between American labor, politics and organized crime in the twentieth century. I am sure that if you didn't know that Samuel L. Jackson isn't a 70-year-old guy, nobody would've thought that Nick Fury was de-aged in Captain Marvel.
We're so accustomed to the biggest-hyped movies failing to live up to expectations that it's nearly disorienting when one delivers. Add the three and a half hour running time, the fact that this is a Netflix movie, and the digital de-aging that was done to De Niro, and you've got an event movie that doesn't have anything to do with superheroes or dinosaurs.
