According to Politico, the Republican subpoena will seek documents from a Democratic public affairs firm called Blue Star as the committee investigates whether Hunter Biden had a conflict of interest while serving on the board of Burisma Holdings, a Ukrainian natural-gas company.
"Senator Romney has expressed his concerns to Chairman Johnson, who has confirmed that any interview of the witness would occur in a closed setting without a hearing or public spectacle", Romney spokeswoman Liz Johnson said Friday. "He will vote to allow the chairman move to acquire the files which were offered".
The GOP-led committee is expected to vote next Wednesday on a subpoena seeking records of Blue Star Strategies' former consultant Andrii Telizhenko.
"Romney said Thursday the committee's research into Hunter Biden and Burisma" seems political, and I believe folks are exhausted of those sort of political investigations and might expect that if there is something of importance that has to be assessed, it could be achieved by possibly the FBI or another agency that is not as political as possibly a committee of the entire body".

Along with the visuals for the emotional track, Katy made some comments on social media alluding to her pregnancy. The couple were dining at an Italian restaurant when Bloom swept her away in a helicopter.
Why it matters: Romney's plans emerged just one day after he expressed concern that the investigation "appears" politically motivated, aimed at hurting Joe Biden's presidential run. "In neither the case of the father, nor the son, was any evidence presented ... that a crime had been committed", and therefore, Trump's "insistence that they be investigated by the Ukrainians is hard to explain other than as a political pursuit".
The committee is composed of eight Republicans and six Democrats, meaning that a single majority member voting with the minority would cause a 7-7 tie vote, thereby causing the subpoena effort to fail.
Johnson has said the investigation has nothing to do with the 2020 election. The House impeached him in December for pressuring the Ukrainian government while withholding military aid to the country. Johnson, who signed a bipartisan letter calling for an overhaul of the Ukraine prosecutor's office in 2016, said he wants to do the investigation "as rapidly as possible". "Many other vital problems affect the safety of the nation including coronavirus and cyberattacks". While this largely failed to happen, in the trial's final days, Hill Republicans made it clear that they meant to seek political retribution by going after the Bidens and investigating the Ukraine whistleblower.
