Acting U.S. Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell on Wednesday sent two Republican lawmakers a list of senior officials in former President Barack Obama's administration, who are alleged to have been involved in "unmasking" former national security adviser Michael Flynn from an intelligence report.
According to Fox News, the list revealed that then-U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power made unmasking requests seven times between November 30, 2016 and January 11, 2017.
Attorney General William Barr's declaration that there were never grounds to pursue Flynn and the Federal Bureau of Investigation abused its powers drew fierce criticism from legal experts and civil society groups.
As expected, former president Barack Obama has been taking the high road during the coronavirus pandemic, focusing his comments around helping people stay safe and protected from the deadly disease.
Former President Barack Obama's national security adviser, Susan Rice, made dozens of requests during the presidential transition to unmask the identities of US citizens. "Each individual was an authorized recipient of the original report and the unmasking was approved through NSA's standard process". Ron Johnson, the chair of the Homeland Security Committee and one of the senators who released the names, said Wednesday night on Fox News. That raises questions about what other events or information concerned these USA officials and prompted them to make unmasking requests. They used all the data they gleaned to assist discredit Trump after he did win, within the type of an investigation into his marketing campaign's ties to Russia. And Trump has adamantly declared, all through all of it, that Obama knew all about it.
Last week, remarks by Obama were leaked to Yahoo News that were highly critical about Trump and his administration, seeming to break a convention in USA politics that former occupants of the White House rarely criticize their successors. In that case, the person's name is also "masked".
This suggests that more senior government officials can request and receive information from these kinds of intercepts than the public realizes.

"I have no recollection of making a request related to General Flynn".
It's not clear from the list who in fact did see Flynn's identity. "These documents have absolutely nothing to do with the - any FBI investigation, and they confirm that all normal procedures were followed".
