An announcement that's sure to create ripples for how the National Basketball Association might look to tackle resuming this season and how it might operate next season.
Both events were originally scheduled to take place in Chicago in May. To this point, there has been no official decision on the 2020 NBA Draft, which is now scheduled for June 25.
Going ahead with the draft doesn't seem to be too much of an issue, and the league could easily hold the draft lottery virtually whenever it wanted to as well, but the question is the desire to actually do so.

In theory, the league could cancel the remainder of the regular season and go straight into the postseason based on current standings, but that would require front offices to manage participating in the postseason at the same time they focus on the draft without an especially compelling reason for doing so. That seems like a sound strategy, and it may also come with the convenient side benefit of potentially not having to directly compete with the powerful National Football League in the fall.
Note, the postponement of the Draft Combine & Draft Lottery likely means a postponement for the Draft as well.
If you had plans to watch the 2020 NBA Draft on June 25th, it might be wise to make other plans; The Ringer's Kevin O'Connor reports he's hearing the draft will be pushed back from its planned date at the end of next month.
