The number of recoveries have overtaken the total COVID-19 active cases in India for the first time on Wednesday even as the country reported close to 10,000 new instances of the infection pushing the cumulative tally to over 2.7 lakh cases. "Wednesday, 7,745 deaths related to novel coronavirus have been recorded in the country", reads information released by the ministry.
With 2.76 lakh identified cases, India now ranks fifth in the world in terms of total Covid-19 cases after United States, Brazil, Russia and the United Kingdom. The death toll has reached 7,471 as per the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry. According to the official data, there are 849 active cases in the state so far, reports ANI. Maharashtra remains the worst affected state in the country.
Globally, more than 72 lakh people have tested positive globally for the novel coronavirus ever since its emergence in China last December, while nearly 34 lakh have recovered so far.

The state's stay-at-home order ended on May 15, and its cases have increased 115 percent since then, leading a former state health chief to warn Arizona may need new social distancing measures or field hospitals, reports Reuters.
